Our values and goals

biwi has accepted the complex challenges involved in transforming solid livestock waste and liquid manure into valuable resources – and thus found a solution to the problem of disposing of animal waste in the agricultural sector. This video demonstrates how we are able to do that while protecting biodiversity and benefiting the local economy and what the resultant products are:

The facility in operation

biwi treats solid livestock waste and liquid manure in such a manner as to utilize and recycle all of the substances they contain. We manufacture fertilizers and process the resultant gases (CO2 and bio-methane) so that they can be efficiently utilized (e.g., in the foods industry and as a fuel). Here you can see how the facility operates:

Facts and figures on our biogas plant

Our plant processes a total of about 150,000 tons of solid livestock waste and liquid manure annually – you can see the resultant valuable products here:

LNG – The fuel of the future?

The biogas mixture produced in our fermenters consists chiefly of methane. This gas is an excellent fuel, and one of mankind’s most-important energy sources. In our biogas plant, it is processed to yield liquid biogas (bio-LNG). This video explains the manufacturing process for bio-LNG and its ecological advantages for use as a fuel:

Biogenic carbon dioxide for the foods industry

CO2 is an essential gas for flora and fauna. During biogas treatment, a pure, biogenic form of carbon dioxide is produced in a liquid state which is suitable for use in the foods industry. The video illustrates the manufacturing and purification process and explains how the resultant product can be used for various different applications:

Fertilizers for a variety of applications

Cattle manure is an excellent fertilizer. In the biwi biogas plant, it is treated and used to produce three different kinds of organic fertilizer: the fermentation residue (odorless and entirely lacking in solids), the liquid fertilizer (which contains no chemical additives) and the BIWI solid fertilizer (odorless and easy to distribute). The manufacturing methods and different areas of application are depicted here:

For the benefit of our environment

Decarbonization was always a core component of our strategy right from the beginning. Every day, we produce approx. 11,000 kg of bio-LNG – this video shows you how much CO2 the use of this fuel avoids and why the use of organic fertilizer helps reduce emissions:
